Azira's Most Frequently Asked Question

The most embarrassing yet unfortunately necessary question I've always had to answer to people who just met me, my friends, family of my friends, and worse of all, guys that I'm dating has always been this;

"Azira, in what manner are you sick?"

Of course, people are usually more diplomatic. So, here goes:

Azira has two health problems at this point of time.

Firstly, Azira has a Cervical Disk bulge. You have a cental nervous system, which is supported by the spine, which normally would look something like this;

Everything is supposed to be in line and where it's supposed to be. Mine looks something like this;

Usually, surgery is available as a solution to fix it, but my bulge is at C4, which is a few inches from where my brain meets the 'cable' or spinal cord which sends and receives messages from my body to the brain. It is too close, and I have a high chance of paralysis if I choose to proceed, henceforth the way that I am now.

According to my current Orthopedic Dr Ali, it usually occurs from car accidents and so forth. The thing is, my pains began since I was very small, about 8 years old or so. It affected my lower back, my legs and my neck, and any particular joint which highly depends on my central nervous system, meaning everywhere on my body.

I would feel pain when I sleep, when I try to write, when I walk, when I turn my head to look at you. Thing with pain is that with enough time the mere hint of it dulls to nothing but a passing irritation, and so I have continued living my life normally.

My second health problem, recently found, is Carpal Tunnel Sydrome.

Because of the physical limitations I've suffered due to the first problem, I've come to be dependant on the laptop--a lot. I use it for not only for my assignments, but also for my tests and my finals, with the good graces of the Law faculty (UiTM is disabled-friendly!). I even had to type my class notes, sometimes, with my Dopod 838 a.k.a Celane. The strain took its toll on my already abused nervous system, I suppose, but it's still within the early stages.

The numbness and pain starts because of the median or main nerve connecting your arm to your wrist and your fingers were compressed because of heavy use;

So now I can't type that much either. Oh, my. Idleness doesn't suit me at all.

I hope this helps. Now all I have to do is say 'ready my blog!' lol.

What you, people who think kindly of me and want to be helpful have to do is understand that I have limitations. I don't ask people for help easily, you see, so it would really be nice of you to help me either carry heavy things or understand when I say I can't or won't do anything. If I snap at you on a hot day, it means that I have a migraine or headache along with the neck pain and my patience is a bit low. So.. cheerios!

You are the 1st person I know experiencing Carpal Tunnel disease. I read about it a lot but didn't actually encounter anybody yet. I am lucky although I use my laptop a lot, I tend not to put pressure on my wrist that much. Hope you'll get well and all the best! Admire your enthusiasm.. ;-)
